All 3 womenswear pant blocks are created for woven (non-stretch) fabrics. The block you use will depend on the type of pant you want to make.
Selecting the right block
Each block has a different crotch fit (i.e. shape and extension), which is specifically designed to create different types of pants.
Jean (TR02)
The most fitted block. Best for:
- Jeans
- Short shorts
- Hot pants
Trouser (TR01)
Fitted with some ease around the crotch. Best for:
- Tailored pants
- Palazzo (wide leg)
- Pedal pusher
- Capri
- Chino
Relaxed Fit (TR03)
Crotch has been lowered by 5cm (2") to created a relaxed fit. Best for:
- Boyfriend or oversize
- Peg-legged
- Elastic waistband
- Pyjama & loungewear
- Board shorts
- Sweat & jogger
- Harem
Fashion studios & pattern makers usually have all 3 blocks
Size guide
Size guide
All 3 blocks are fitted between the waist and hip with 2 cm (3/4") of built-in ease to allow comfort and movement.
FIND YOUR SIZE (see image 5)
- Select mannequin (a.k.a dress form) or fit model (i.e. person) you will fit your design on.
- Measure waist (A) and hip (B). Hip is 20 cm below waist.
- Find size in the Body Measurement Chart (image 5 on the left) with the measurements closest to your waist and hip measurements. If you are in between sizes, go up a size.
EASE
The block includes 2 cm (3/4") of ease. If you want more ease (or you're in between sizes), go up a size.
MEASURING TIPS
- Make sure measuring tape is parallel to the floor.
- Take measurements against the skin (i.e. not over clothes).
- Measuring tape should sit firmly, but not too tight.
- Measure the waist at the narrowest part of the waist.
