Two piece sleeve pattern drafting course
Course description
Course description
Learn how to turn a one-piece sleeve into a tailored two-piece sleeve following the same drafting method used by professional pattern makers and tailors.
What you'll learn
- How to tilt the sleeve to follow the natural curve of the arm.
- Where to position the inner and outer seams so the sleeve rolls slightly inward – like the arm does.
- Perfect your sleeve's fit with illustrated pattern adjustments.
Plus! Find out how to add a sleeve vent with buttons.
Why CLIQD is different
Most two-piece sleeve drafting tutorials simply give you one set of measurements to follow.
This course goes further by explaining the logic behind the drafting method and the different measurements professional pattern makers use — so you can confidently adapt the sleeve to suit your own design.
What's in the course
What's in the course
Simply following the illustrated, step-by-step instructions in the sections below:
- Trace your sleeve
- Fold underarm seams on top of centre line
- Straighten elbow & bicep/underarm lines
- Cut along elbow line & open
- Draft outer & inner seam
- Separate pattern pieces
- Hem finish
- Label pattern
- Toile & fit your pattern
Measurements are in cm (metric) and inches (imperial)
Why use a two-piece sleeve?
One-piece sleeves are straight, while our arms naturally rest with a slight bend at the elbow. Splitting the sleeve into two pieces allows you to create an “L-shape” that follows the natural curve of the arm.
This makes the sleeve:
- More comfortable to wear
- Improves range of motion
- Reduces wrinkles around the elbow
- Creates a cleaner, more tailored fit
